Transportation

There are two public bus systems in Wayne County.  The Detroit Department of Transportation or D-DOT operates within the city of Detroit.  The Suburban Mobility Authority Regional Transportation system or SMART operates outside of the city of Detroit.

D-DOT operates scheduled fixed-route bus service along 52 routes.  For information on routes and services call 1-888-336-8287.  All D-DOT large bus service routes have wheelchair lifts which are available with two service options.  Outside the 313 area code, call 1-888-336-8287.  For on call reservations and 24 hour emergency lift service call 313-935-5438.  D-DOT also provides a para-transit service called Detroit Metro Lift for people who have been certified for the service.  Call 1-888-336-8287 for more information.

SMART provides service outside of the city of Detroit and people with disabilities may ride SMART at reduced fares with proper identification, like your Medicare card or a special fare identification card for which you can apply.  You can get an informational packet with a regional route map, and fare schedule by calling 1-866-962-5515.

Other transportation services include:

Nankin Transit Authority, for Garden City, Inkster, Wayne and Westland, 734-729-2710, or 734-729-2720.
