Substance Abuse Treatment

The ultimate goal of substance abuse treatment is long-term abstinence from drugs and alcohol.  This is achieved using a variety of therapies, such as individual, group and family therapy and sometimes medication assisted treatments, such as methadone treatment.  Some people may need to go through the process of detoxification in a residential or hospital setting.

In Wayne County, there are two agencies that help people secure substance abuse treatment.  If you live in the city of Detroit, you should contact The Department of Health and Wellness Promotion, Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Recovery at 800-467-2452.

If you live outside of the city of Detroit, you should contact the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance, or SEMCA at 800-686-6543.

For more information, contact The Detroit Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency at 313-833-2500.
