Social Security Disability Insurance Payments

The amount of Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, you receive every month is based on how much you worked, or on how much your parents worked, and paid into Social Security. Your SSDI payment can either be deposited directly into your bank account, or sent directly to you, or your Representative Payee.

The amount of SSDI you receive can be reduced if:

  • you are also receiving Worker’s Compensation payments;
  • you are receiving other disability benefits; or
  • you are receiving other Social Security benefits.

You can have unlimited assets and not lose your SSDI. However, if you have a lot of assets and want to receive services from a Community Mental Health agency, you may have to pay for those services. The amount you will have to pay is based on your financial ability to pay for them. In some cases, you can receive both Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income at the same time. The Social Security Administration will notify you if you are eligible for both.

If you have any questions about your SSDI payment, you can contact the Social Security Administration at 800-772-1213 or visit them online at www.ssa.gov. You can also contact The Arc at 734-729-9100.
