Head Start

Project Head Start was designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs.

Head Start’s goals include eliminating risk factors which threaten the well being of families, engaging the entire community in supporting families as they move from dependency to self sufficiency, empowering parents and staff to advocate for all children and to assuring individualized programming for all children and families.

If you think your child might benefit from a Head Start program, you can call the Wayne County Head Start Children and Family Services division at 866-534-5437.  You can visit the State of Michigan’s Head Start Association online at www.mhsa.ws.
